The Yvonne McCalla Foundation Incorporated (YMF Inc.) aspires to promote awareness, encourage and educate minority women about the importance of participating in breast cancer research studies and to address the socioeconomic and biological factors that contribute to the higher breast cancer mortality rates for minority women. The Foundation’s goals are to develop relationships with cancer hospitals and universities that specialize in breast cancer research, to assist in their efforts to explore chemotherapy drugs that are more beneficial for the biology of minority women. YMF Inc. endeavors to begin the education of breast cancer awareness for women that are 21 years young and older.
The vision of the Yvonne McCalla Foundation Incorporated is to help decrease the breast cancer mortality rate for minority women through research studies and education.
Through its scholarship initiatives, YMF Inc. aims to provide financial assistance to single minority mothers who are pursuing higher education in the field of nursing. The motivation behind the foundation is to: help decrease the financial barriers of obtaining higher education for single minority mothers; to support and encourage the efforts of bringing more diligent and compassionate individuals to the field of nursing; and raise awareness amongst people of color concerning breast cancer in the minority community.
